Toni The Tiger (Toni)
The weekend of October 18, 2013, Carol Darnell passed away in her sleep. Carol was a supporter, dear friend and a member of TIER's BOD.

Many people came together and networked to help place her dogs, cats, horses. It took a Village and I am amazed at what they all came together to do and got done so quickly.

Updates

4/29/2020 - The Hoof Fairy Cometh!

Toni is continuing his laminitic/founder journey.  We ordered Hot Hoof II (a Chinese Herb we have had success with in prior years for founder).

He has been on Thyroid-L for a bit and is still on Bute for a while longer.  He is much better than he was.  Farrier put shoes on him to help distribute his weight evenly and we ordered the Hoof Cinch to stabilize the coffin bone.  That won't be here until next week.  You can tell he is less than impressed with the whole thing as he has his tongue sticking out.  HA!

3/31/2020 - Tooth Fairy visit

Toni was an exceptionally good boy today.  Not only did he have Dr. Johnson of Mohave River Equine Veterinary Services come out to give him a full dental treatment, a farrier was waiting in the wings to do his feet.

His teeth weren't too bad, but at his age it is best to be sure.  Moses also got a dental treatment today.

Toni will be started on Thyroid-L as he might have some thyroid issues.  He is a bit laminitic right now and will be on Bute for a few days also.

7/7/2018
It is HOT out there! 106 degrees at 10:00 AM!
Toni beaned himself on his noggin 3 days ago. The the vet was out yesterday morning to sedate/clean (115.00). I did my best for 2 days to clean it up, but he just wasn't having any of it and I couldn't get it as clean as it needed to be. So...better living through chemisty! His forelock was yucky and stuck to the wound. Vet cut his forelock off! Arghh! Hopefully it will grow back. He's 20 yrs. old and didn't have much of a forelock to begin with. DermaGel a couple times a day and probably RedKote (Scarlet Oil) too. He sure isn't happy with having me do anything near the top of his head.
He was a very happy drunk for about 30 minutes.
HELP ME! My grandfather was the awesome Kehmosabi. Right there on my papers. I am descended from ROYALTY I tell ya! And what do they do to me? Cut off my forelock and take pictures that make me look like a mule! All just because I banged my head (fireworks?) and scraped it up a bit. I WILL NOT let them touch my wound again! Never. Ever! Well...okay, they can put some of that Derma Gel and then RedKote on there cuz it makes it look like I was in a life and death battle kinda. Sincerely, Tonithetiger, aka: TONI

6/5/2018 - Strolling & Rolling

Great day for a stroll! Toni (our beloved Carol Darnell's boy: Tonithetiger) took a stroll, a roll and had discussions with several TIER residents. Every resident was pleased to meet him!

Looks like Deacon is giving instructions on the proper way to roll!

3/5/2018 - Tooth Fair Showed Up-Holy Guacamole!

Toni, Toni, Toni! Dr. Jacob Johnson, DVM of Mohave River Equine who specializes in equine dentistry visited today. Toni needed 2 extractions plus the usual tune up. He required 2 shots of sedatiion throughout the procedure as it took some time and extracting the bad teeth without breaking off the root wasn't something to be rushed.

Below is ONE of the teeth Dr. Johnson removed.

As usual, Toni was he sweet self and a very good patient. Of course, he had had a double dose of sedative (1 at the beginning of the procedure and 1 later on) and seemed to be enjoying being drunk!

In fact, he recovered from his sedation a lot quicker than Jake who had only one shot!

2/22/2018 - Yup, I'm Really Here!

Carol's Boys, Toni & Jake, arrived at TIER 2/18/2018. Of course, Gail had misplaced her camera and did not find it until after they had arrived.

Thank you to Cindy B. for fostering the boys for a month & a half while we put up the new corral, found a nicely priced shelter and then had it put up by the wonderful David Y and his son-in-law and arranged transport with the always giving Dana S. Thank you ALL!

Toni and Jake loaded in the trailer like they did it every day of the week, traveled very well and then unloaded like they did it every day of the week. They walked into their separate pens, met the neighbors and proceeded to eat. No bluster, no freaking out, no nervousness. I was pleasantly surprised at how calm the boys were and are.

Toni has gained weight, but still needs to put on some more pounds. He has had his feet done and is schedued to see the dentist on March 5th, 2018.

1/18/2018 - Gaining Weight! Yay!

(ABOVE: Toni arrival picture. 1/7/2018-11 days ago)UPDATE from Cindy B. who is fostering Toni & Jake until we have funds to purchase & install a shelter at TIER.

A couple of pictures of Tony from yesterday to show you his improvement. Didn't have time to chase down Jake El Jahklan, he's in the pasture. He's very aggressive towards Tony if there is food out, Tony has the bite marks to prove it. So Tony comes in for his meals and is let out with Jake after breakfast. They do not care about being separated. Jake is just downright nasty to him. As long as other horses are around they're happy, you can see that Tony loves the girls.

1/9/2018 - So, This is California?

Toni (ToniTheTiger) and Jake (El Jahklan) arrived in California the weekend of January 6, 2018. The trip from Alabama was over 2,000 miles.

The boys arrived in good spirits, drank lots of water and commenced touring their temporary quarters.

Thanks to our friend Cindy B. for agreeing to house the boys until TIER is able to purchase a shelter for their new corral. WE tapped our reserves & Funds were raised to go toward transport, but we do not currently have enough funds for a shelter/delivery & install. We are working on it.

As soon as we are able to bring the boys to TIER, we will have Toni's teeth taken care of by our equine dentist. He does not wad his hay, but he does drop quite a bit of his senior feed.

We knew there was some rain coming, and did not want the boys to be stuck out in the open after such a long trip. Fortunately, Cindy B. did not hesitate when asked if these boys could stay awhile. They have plenty of room to move about, a large 2 sided shelter to get under, Cindy's horses to converse with and some wooly new friends.

Until we get a shelter and have it installed, the boys will stay where they are, be transitioned over to alfalfa hay (they were previously eating a grass hay, pelleted feed and senior), and will be supplemented with senior feed. Cindy will keep a watchful eye on the boys as they experience a new climate, different feed and different water.

1/3/2018 - California Bound!

Two of Carol's remaining horses Arabian geldings, Tonithetiger (TONI-almost 20 yrs. old) & El Jahklan (Jake - almost 18 yrs. old) are no longer able to stay with their adopter (life changes) and will be coming to California to live out their lives.
