JoFriday was transported to the vet for an Endoscopic exam, barrium swallow followed by 5 x-rays of his esophagus & chest.  Scarring in his esophagus from prior choke was making it difficult to drink/eat. (Dysphagia)
The Endoscopic exam showed a large dialtion (damage from prior choke).  The x-rays of his esophagus & chest following the Barrium Swallow indicated that the Barrium did not flow past his chest area.  Basically this meant that there was a blockage and rupture.
JoFriday wanted to eat, but the food could not get to his stomach.  He would choke, cough and the feed would come back up through his nose and mouth.  Our vet felt that he had aspirated food (food wos going into his lungs) as he also had a low grade case of pneumonia.  He was losing more weight and becoming dehydrated because food & water could not flow into his system properly.
It is with deep sadness that we made the decision to help JoFriday cross the Rainbow Bridge. He was a wonderfully kind and loving horse.  He tried so very hard, yet his body was damaged beyond repair.  We are  thankful to have known him.  It was not nearly long enough.
