Wow! What a looker!
Wyatt is a sorrel Quarter gelding. He came off a ranch from up north and is sporting a brand on his shoulder. Wyatt is well built and is no stranger to a hard day's work. He is a complete gentleman on the ground. He is sore on his front and is in need of a soft landing and a good farrier. Please find it in your heart to give this cowboy a home. Wyatt is approximately 7 years old and stands 15.1HH.

11/29/2021 - Tooth Fairy & Grabby Face Games

Wyatt is still his cute as a button self.  He and LeRoy are neighbors and they play Grabby Face together. We were finally able to get a mask that LeRoy couldn’t take off of Wyatt.  He seems to know that it is an eye catching color and he kind of struts around.  He is an edgy horse, but willing.

Dr. Johnson found no major dental issues for Wyatt.  Yay!  2 days before Dr. Johnson arrived he was limping horribly on his front left foot.  Worse than when you helped us to rescue him from the Louisiana Kill Pen!  I was very worried and he was given some Bute.  On the second day of being so lame, an abcess broke out at the coronet band.  Whew!  We put Ichthamol on it to help drain any remaining discharge and he was walking sound again.  Upon examination by our farrier, he said that the abcess had probably been brewing for around 8 months!!  Wow!

10/4/2021 - Welcome to TIER!!

Wyatt…Woot!  Woot!

Wyatt has arrived at TIER!!  Thank you to Kathy L. for taking such good care of him while he was in quarantine, taking him to the vet for x-rays and then again for his Health Certificate & Coggins, talking to him and giving him scratches.  Each time, he did not hesitate to load into the trailer or unload.  Per Kathy, it was hard for her to get pictures because he was always in your face.  She called him a “Velcro pony”.

When he first arrived at Kathy’s, he was very sore on his front feet.  She immediately put him on one scoop of Bute (pain reliever/inflammation reduction) in the morning and evening in his feed.  The difference in how he moved was quite noticeable.  I thought we would have to make the difficult decision to let him go, but the meds and x-rays told a wonderfully different story.  Due to transport timing, the Texas farrier was unable to address his feet and leave him enough time to not be more sore before the ride to TIER.

Thanks to transporter Ruby Lingo, he arrived from Texas in great shape and…as usual, stuck his face in the hay!  The boy likes to eat!

We begin the process of helping him to become sound this Friday, 10/8/2021.  Fingers Crossed!  Dr. Don Moore, Equine Chiropractor will be out to adjust his body and farrier, Lee Ward, will start the long process of bringing his clubbed hooves back to balance.  The horrible angles he now has is the main reason for his lameness.  The strain on his soft tissues in the foot/ankle has to be awful.  He’s only 7 years old!!!  Can’t wait to see how this goes.

Dr. Don will also be adjusting LeRoy.  Fingers crossed again!

HUGE thanks to our supporters who have helped us rescue this lovely boy who was tossed away and headed to a horrible fate.  Thanks to YOU, we were able to save this boy just hours before he was scheduled to ship to slaughter.  THANK YOU!

WYATT, Welcome to TIER!

9/16/2021 - X-Ray Results
I was on pins & needles waiting to hear from Kathy or the Vet after WYATT had xrays done, overall health evaluation.  Just wasn't sure what the outcome would be for this boy.  I'm still waiting on the vet to contact me (they are very busy), but Kathy called me after all was said and done at Lazy 3 Veterinary Care. She also sent me the update below.

From Kathy:  9-15-2021 Vet Visit, Xrays-WYATT:

"The news we got today was way better than anything I could have imagined.  The X-rays are incredibly clean considering the outside appearance of his legs.  Very, very little arthritis and the enlargement on the outside, left front fetlock is a soft tissue issue.  He is club footed on both fronts.

We will start micro adjustments on the feet to help bring angles back in line.  The bone is not crooked but the leg appears to be because of odd angles at the joints.  He will stay on bute for the duration of his stay in quarantine for inflammation control as much as pain.

Dr. Browning says micro adjustments on the hoof every 30 days.  Think rasp, not nippers.

He is such a good boy.  He stood perfectly still for the xrays. I loaded him into the trailer 4 times in under an hour and he stepped right in each time.  When I turned him out when we got back he trotted down the run with just the slightest head bob.  When I initially went to catch him this morning he came to me and once the lead rope was around his neck, he was looking for the halter.  He has not been pushy even at meal time.  He let me pick his feet up easily.  He is a darling horse.  So handsome and so sweet and the vet confirmed he was in the 6-7 year old range."

Proof Positive that you can't judge a book by it's cover!!  After what we all went through with Jewelie, I was expecting the worst and praying for the best.  Looks like those prayers everybody was sending out worked.  WOOT!  WOOT!

Kathy has sent a message to her farrier to schedule a visit. He will have access to the xrays if he wants to view them.

Vet bill wasn't TOO bad.  It would have been considerably higher here in California.  We did have to get a Coggins test since a Coggins Certificate was not provided by the doggone kill pen in Louisiana.  Sigh

THANK YOU for making it possible for us to help this young gelding.  I shudder when I think what his fate would have been had you not been there to help us change the course of his journey.  THANK YOU!!!

We have transport from Tx to CA scheduled for October 2nd or 3rd with the same hauler who transported LeRoy.  We will need a little help with those costs, costs of  Health Certificate and quarantine down the road.

9/13/2021 - 9/11/2021 Arrived at Primary Quarantine

Wyatt was picked up in Louisiana and then transported to an alternate quarantine facility in Texas.  He stayed overnight there and the next afternoon Rikki (short haul transporter) gave him a ride to our Primary Quarantine facility with Kathy of Starburst Ranch. (Pic below is Wyatt loading up to go to Kathy's)

He came off the trailer nicely even though he is horribly sore in his front feet.  Kathy has set up a veterinary appointment for Wednesday for xrays and anything else he might need.  We ordered a Navy Big D halter with a cotton lead rope for him to be delivered to Kathy’s place. Comments from Kathy upon Wyatt’s arrival:

“He’s hungry. Wanted to eat the crap hay that was on the ground.  Hit the alfalfa in his stall hard and had a little drink of water.  He appears to be in good shape. Certainly a good weight.  Eye boogers. Nasal discharge but nothing alarming.  It isn’t green. (We have opted to not start him on Uniprim unless the nasal discharge becomes yellowish.  We’ll know more after he sees the vet.)

He is club footed on his right front and the left ankle is not looking too great.

"Peeked at his teeth and he appears to be on the young side from the glimpse I got.  Pretty quiet.  Some dings on his face but all surface.  He’s pretty lame.  Stands with his weight over his back legs.  I’ll ask about support wraps on Wednesday.

I had to move him over to the side of the stall and he went readily. Both directions. Another one someone has spent tons of time with.

Also, he has pooped and drank a little.  His piles would indicate that his teeth are in decent shape.”

He is no longer under the threat of being sent to Mexico.  We are hoping the veterinarian will give us some hope for his future.  Poor Guy!!

9/10/2021 - He's Out of the Lot

Not looking good for Wyatt.  His lameness is much more than an abcess.  He was picked up from the kill pen in Louisiana 9/9/2021 and taken to an alternate QT facility in Texas.  Saturday, Rikki (short haul transport) will pick him up and take him to our got to Quarantine Facility with Kathy.  Kathy will schedule an appointment with the vet to have his feet/legs xrayed.  It's not looking too good.  At least we now have a picture of his gorgeous face!

Send positive thoughts, prayers, etc.  his way.  I'm worried, but glad he isn't on the truck to a Mexican Slaughter House!
